This analysis reflects a more nuanced understanding of how blockchain networks generate genuine utility for their native tokens—moving beyond simplistic narratives about payment volume alone.

The mechanics here warrant examination. On most blockchains, transaction fees create baseline token demand since validators must receive compensation in the native asset. XRPL's fee structure, denominated in drops of XRP, creates a modest but consistent burn mechanism. More substantial demand, however, could emerge from reserve requirements. Accounts on the XRPL must lock XRP to maintain ledger presence and create trustlines for other assets—essentially immobilizing supply in proportion to network growth. As decentralized finance, stablecoins, and tokenized real-world assets migrate onto the XRPL, the number of active accounts and trustlines could expand significantly, effectively locking more XRP in protocol-enforced reserves.
