The exchange's decision to allocate half of all trading fee revenue to external market makers represents an unusually generous split—one that Warwick characterizes as economically unsustainable. The arithmetic behind Warwick's skepticism appears straightforward. By splitting trading revenue fifty-fifty with market makers, Hyperliquid absorbs significant operational pressure immediately. This model works during capital-flush periods when the platform can sustain losses or redirect token buyback allocations, but it creates a structural problem as user growth plateaus or market cycles contract. The HYPE token's buyback schedule—typically the primary sink for protocol revenues—faces inevitable compression when half the fee pool vanishes.
