The proposal, authored by LlamaRisk, targets reserves where underlying assets have shed meaningful liquidity and trading activity, rendering their price feeds unreliable for collateral valuation. The affected positions total roughly $6.76 million in aggregate supply with $4.29 million in outstanding debt spread across ten separate deployments, some of which are already in various stages of deprecation.
The core issue is straightforward but consequential: as adoption dries up and secondary market liquidity evaporates, the remaining trading volume becomes thin enough to manipulate. When Chainlink's own engineers classify a price feed as high or very high operational risk, that's a clear signal the data input can no longer be trusted to reflect fair value. An asset that has lost its peg intermittently or abandoned by its user base presents an outsized risk to the broader protocol. Pricing illiquid or persistently depegged collateral against live market feeds creates fragility—a small trade can swing reported prices dramatically, destabilizing risk calculations across the entire lending ecosystem. This proposal represents a natural maturation of Aave's governance infrastructure, mirroring previous successful sunsettings like the deprecation of DPI and the ongoing TUSD offboarding initiative.
What distinguishes this round is its expansion into Aave V3 territories where these troubled assets have languished for extended periods with continuous adoption decline. The migration of activity away from these reserves has been inexorable, and allowing them to persist on the protocol's books while their price feeds deteriorate introduces unnecessary protocol risk. Each asset in scope either lost meaningful market participation or failed to maintain stable pegging mechanisms over sustained periods.
